Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to carry out an inspection of a commercial vehicle designed to carry a special load, in accordance with relevant roads and traffic authority regulations, and workplace policy and procedures concerning vehicle inspection.

It includes action to implement manufacturer specifications for routine checks of vehicle and its associated equipment, to clean the vehicle and its associated equipment, to ensure all specified safety requirements are met, and to ensure vehicle and equipment are operational to workplace requirements and relevant state/territory roads and traffic authority regulations.

Work is performed with limited supervision, with duty of care responsibility for self and others in achieving the prescribed outcomes. It involves the application of routine vehicle checking and maintenance principles and procedures to inspect a commercial vehicle designed to carry special loads, across a variety of operational contexts.

Assessment conditions

As a minimum, assessment must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

  • a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations

  • applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

  • relevant materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry
